With the theme "Ever Magical" at San Francisco Ballet 2017 Opening Night Gala, and the company performing a variety of dances from the new season under artistic director Helgi Tomasson, including excerpts from Flames of Paris and Diamonds - it was inevitable that the fashions would feature more whimsical, fantasy-like looks. From primary colors to pastels, from body-fitting dresses to extravagant gowns with long semi-cathedral trains envying those mostly adorned by the Royal Families of Europe - SF Ballet 2017 Gala had it all!  Style off-stage equally matched the vivacious on-stage presence of the dancers, and some even echoed the finesse of the principal dancers. We present a list of the best-dressed patrons of the arts that took the daring red-carpet challenge and made it shine.

Spend just a half hour with the Russian-bred, platinum blonde fashionista Sonya Molodetskaya (who happens to be Haute Living‘s fashion editor-at-large) and it’s impossible not to notice her charismatic charm. From her self-deprecating humor to her loud infectious laugh, she’s incredibly likable. No wonder ex-mayor Willie Brown fell for her 13 years ago. She’s a breath of fresh air on the social scene and her over-the-top fashion choices make her one of San Francisco’s most photographed girls about town. Statement t-shirts (she recently sported one that said ‘May the bridges I burn light the way’), knee-high metallic boots, pink satin coats, off-the-shoulder leather jackets—there is nothing understated about her sartorial choices.
